Overview
The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine proudly presents the Miami Pathology Conference On The Beach hosted by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.  This is the 48th in a series of courses conducted by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.  The course seeks to improve the diagnostic skills of practicing pathologists, pathologists in training and other health care professionals by focusing on the latest information, diagnostic criteria and techniques relevant to daily practice.  Participants are exposed to a panel of distinguished faculty – all leaders in their field.  The foundation of the meeting is robust educational programming offering new information in the areas of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with emphasis this year on bone and soft tissue pathology, breast and gynecologic pathology, cytopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, genitourinary pathology, head and neck pathology, immunohistochemistry, laboratory management and test utilization, and molecular studies.  This five-day course features didactic multidisciplinary lectures and case presentations.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Assess the diagnostic features of high-risk lesions of the breast, with particular focus on their differential diagnoses, possible pitfalls and management implications at core needle biopsy
  2. Review reporting of breast pathology specimens obtained in the post-neoadjuvant treatment setting
  3. Optimize assessment and contribution of the pathologist to the management of genitourinary cancer patients and consider potential biomarker options
  4. Solve emerging diagnostic dilemmas in prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer
  5. Analyze various current guidelines and diagnostic criteria that will help to direct appropriate interventions for genitourinary cancer patients
  6. Identify vital gaps in the evidence base and significant opportunities for advancing gastrointestinal cancer research
  7. Identify the pathological features of common liver diseases and potential therapeutic agents to treat liver disease
  8. Recognize diagnostic features and differential diagnosis in GI tract lymphomas
  9. Summarize the state of the science in gynecological cancer research to identify gaps in the evidence base, and opportunities for advancing gynecological pathology research
  10. Illustrate the role of biomarkers in the diagnosis of gynecological tumors
  11. Evaluate how prognostic markers will continue to perfect therapeutic regimens
