Overview
The University of Miami Osher Center for Integrative Health's Grand Rounds series provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of Integrative Medicine and Health practice. The series aims to support inter-disciplinary learning and discuss the application of integrative medicine research and therapies. These monthly presentations are held on the third Thursday of the month from 12:00 - 1:00 PM ET, with the exception of UM holidays. We welcome all UM faculty, staff, and the broader health professional community.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain how taking a holistic approach to mental and physical health, focusing on lifestyle modifications can address the root causes of physical, cognitive, and psychological disorders.
  2. Describe the evidence of integrative medicine approaches on improved health outcomes.
  3. Outline integrative strategies that can be used in patient care.
  4. Outline the scientific principles underlying the role of food in both health and disease promotion, beyond its role as a supplier of energy.
  5. Explore practical approaches to assessing food intake and strategies for intervening in the clinical setting.
  6. Describe key examples of food-based interventions for chronic diseases.
  7. Evaluate the role of nutrition and culinary medicine in cancer prevention and implement evidence-based dietary strategies to reduce cancer risk in clinical practice.
  8. Interpret findings from current research on nutrition and dietary interventions in cancer care to inform treatment plans and improve patient outcomes.
  9. Apply translational science principles to incorporate advances in nutrition research into community health initiatives.
  10. Describe Whole Health and its relationship to chronic pain.
  11. Outline the evidence on select non-pharmacological (CIH) pain interventions.
  12. Develop a plan to integrate Whole Health and CIH modalities into pain management.
