Overview
This two-day course is designed for ophthalmologists whose clinical practices include general ophthalmology, cataract, refractive surgery, and cornea. Using an interactive, case-based approach, the distinguished speakers will present a variety of vignettes and practice pearls to illustrate clinical dilemmas in the diagnosis and management of anterior segment diseases. The 2-day program will focus on cataract, refractive surgery, and disorders of the cornea and external disease.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the benefits and limitations of various lens technology available for cataract surgery (including premium lens technology and advanced monofocal IOLs)
  2. Evaluate how to optimize results from cataract surgery
  3. Evaluate how to best manage patient expectations during premium cataract surgery
  4. Evaluate medical evidence methodically by reviewing recent notable anterior segment publications
  5. Evaluate and manage corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery to provide the best possible visual outcomes
  6. Identify different techniques for managing complicated anterior segment surgery
  7. Interpret results of corneal topography in the diagnosis of keratoconus and for refractive surgery screenings
  8. Diagnose common ocular surface diseases using a comprehensive approach
  9. Treat common ocular surface diseases using a comprehensive approach
  10. Diagnose common and more challenging cases of microbial keratitis
  11. Treat common and more challenging cases of microbial keratitis
  12. Correctly diagnose corneal pathology in patients going for cataract surgery
  13. Appraise when and how to perform various techniques for lamellar keratoplasty
  14. Identify different IOLs for the treatment of cataract and refractive error
  15. Analyze indications and complications of different IOLs in the treatment of cataract and refractive error
  16. Incorporate femtosecond laser technology for the treatment of cataract and refractive error
  17. Evaluate patients with keratoconus to determine who is an appropriate candidate for crosslinking and appropriate timing of treatment
  18. Recognize and manage intraoperative complications during lamellar corneal surgery
  19. Evaluate the most recent data and utility of the femtosecond laser for refractive and current non-refractive corneal and lens-based surgery
  20. Provide an update on the various forms of corneal refractive surgery including topography guided and wavefront guided LASIK, corneal inlays, and SMILE
