Overview
The XXVII Davidson-Mestman Intensive Course on Diabetes, Endocrinology and Cardiometabolic Diseases is the premier Endocrinology Congress reaching endocrinology specialists throughout Latin America, Spain and the USA. The course, commonly referred to as “Curso Intensivo,” will comprehensively address the daily challenges faced by physicians in clinical practice who treat patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and endocrine disorders. The four-day “Curso Intensivo” lectures will be conducted in both English and Spanish and are designed for endocrinologists, internists, family doctors, and allied health care professionals.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the current trends in research on emerging therapies on thyroid cancertargeting, their use and advantages
  2. Explain the rationale for active surveillance and the inclusion and exclusion criteria for active surveillance in patient with micropapillary thyroid carcinoma
  3. Define bariatric surgery and describe the different types of procedures commonly performed
  4. Outline the clinical assessment for symptoms and signs of adrenal hormone excess, the diagnostic testing and management of adrenocorticoid carcinomas
  5. List the common clinical presentations and symptoms associated with different types of pituitary tumors.
  6. Contrast the key clinical features of rare bone diseases and explain the challenges associated with the diagnosis and management
  7. Examine the global and local epidemiology of DKD as a major complication of diabetes.
  8. Diagram a precise clinical approach to the diagnosis of adrenal tumors and contrast the current treatment available and their application on the treatment onadrenal tumors
  9. Identify the physiological mechanisms by which specific endocrine hormones contribute to elevated blood pressure, List the key clinical features and signs and principles of diagnosis and treatment of endocrine hypertension.
  10. Classify pituitary adenomas based on their size, location and describe the pathophysiology of common hormone hypersecretion syndromes associated with pituitary tumors
  11. Explain the appropriate biochemical and hormonal testing used in the diagnosis of pituitary tumors and the appropriate treatment
  12. Define Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and differentiate it from pre-existing diabetes in pregnancy.
  13. Outline the current screening and diagnostic criteria for GDM, including the timing and procedures for glucose challenge and oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT)
  14. Recognize the clinical significance of early detection and management of DKD to prevent adverse kidney and cardiovascular outcomes.
  15. Explain the key pathophysiological mechanisms contributing to the development and progression of CKD, including the role of hyperglycemia, RAAS activation, inflammation, and fibrosis.
  16. Revise the atherogenic lipoprotein profile commonly observed in diabetic patients and the characteristics of small dense Low-Density Lipoprotein (sdLDL) particles.
  17. Identify the key factors that contribute to the formation of sdLDL in diabetic individuals.
  18. Summarize the non-pharmacological management strategies for dyslipidemia in diabetic patients, including lifestyle modifications and the various classes of lipid-lowering medications and their mechanisms of action in the context of diabetic dyslipidemia.
