Overview
The 3rd Neuromodulation of SCI Conference will present the most current translational research on neuromodulation for rehabilitation in individuals with spinal cord injury. Building on recent clinical implementation of noninvasive spinal stimulation for upper extremity function, the program will address ethical considerations within the neuromodulation field, advanced clinical trial design methodologies, underlying mechanisms of neuromodulation driving clinical outcomes, and cross-sector collaborative strategies to speed effective, ethical, and accessible clinical implementation.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Summarize the current evidence for mechanisms underlying neuromodulation and compare specific mechanisms as they related to different techniques of neuromodulation in spinal cord injury.
  2. Recognize key ethical considerations for using neuromodulation in people with SCI, including equitable access and risks and benefits to individuals and the community
  3. Identify and apply research methodologies and practices that enhance the rigor and feasibility of neuromodulation studies in people with SCI.
  4. Recognize and give examples of systemic deficiencies in accessibility of healthcare for individuals with physical disabilities.
  5. Describe therapeutic approaches for improving function after SCI that may be combined with neuromodulation protocols to enhance outcomes.
  6. Identify opportunities and needs in the evolving funding landscape for novel neuromodulation development and for clinical implementation.
  7. Explain the required elements and structure of a Collaborative Community, including the needed steps to begin one, and how the Collaborative Community can advance care by improving rigor, fostering innovation, and opening knowledge-sharing among researchers, clinicians, industry, and affected community members, to improve clinical translation.
  8. Synthesize information across presentations on many aspects of neuromodulation in spinal cord injury to evaluate the potential of neuromodulation for use in different patient populations.

Accreditation
The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 8.00 of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
