Overview
The conference aims to fill in the knowledge gaps in the latest concepts in the understanding of molecular, genetic and other pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease and facilitate an improvement in the pediatric nephrologist’s and other affiliated practitioner’s clinical and research practice.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Interpret the benefits of universal genetic testing in pediatric chronic kidney disease
  2. Interpret the risks of universal genetic testing in pediatric chronic kidney disease
  3. Recognize the technological advancements in measuring glomerular filtration rate
  4. Recognize opportunities and pitfalls of the use of artificial intelligence in research in the field of pediatric nephrology
  5. Delineate the cardiac and renal outcomes of pediatric hypertension in adulthood
  6. Apply the ideal techniques for blood pressure measurement in children across all ages
  7. Recognize the implications of identifying left ventricular strain and diastolic dysfunction in cardiac screening
  8. Review the novel mechanisms of action in antihypertensive medications
  9. Recognize the perinatal outcomes associated with high-risk APOL1 genetic variants in mothers and infants
  10. Develop an understanding of applying the basic science study to kidney development to clinical care
  11. Delineate the overuse and underuse of intravenous fluids in neonates with acute kidney injury
  12. Review the current practice and outcomes of the management of neonatal end-stage kidney disease
  13. Identify the varying predictors of progressive chronic kidney disease
  14. Recognize the comorbid impact of uncontrolled metabolic acidosis in chronic kidney disease
  15. Incorporate new mechanistic insights into mineral bone disease into clinical practice
  16. Develop an approach for screening and prevention of infection in patients with glomerular disease
  17. Identify opportunities to expand the workforce in pediatric nephrology
  18. Review the threat to fellowship recruitment secondary to recent ACGME curriculum reforms
  19. Discuss the benefits and risks of a truncated pediatric nephrology fellowship curriculum
  20. Delineate the branches of pediatric nephrology practice as they contribute to standardization of the concept of an FTE
